Training

Overview
All department members train throughout the year in order to stay current on new techniques, procedures and matters of law. All officers complete over twenty four hours of annual in-service training which consists of firearms, emergency vehicle operations, defensive and arrest tactics and other special topics.  Officers also attend specialized training on a variety of topics in order to improve their skills and abilities.

In 2013 a Department wide training initiative began in order to better prepare for large scale active violence incidents. Mass shootings have unfortunately become very common and have required law enforcement agencies nationwide to change their response plans.  The Department continues to work closely with the Verona School District, Fitchrona EMS, the Fitchburg Fire Department and other law enforcement agencies to train and prepare for such an incident.
