Inspection

The Fitchburg Fire Department conducts fire inspection based on local, state, and national codes, to ensure the safety of our residents and visitors alike.

Fire Inspections
The highly trained fire inspectors generally conduct fire inspections twice a year. The frequency of the fire inspections are based on local, state, and national codes. The number of inspection per year also can be affected by sprinkler and alarm systems. As an example, some office buildings are required to have a semiannual fire inspection completed while a storage facility that is completely fitted with an automatic fire sprinkler and alarm system may only be required to be inspected once a year.

Group Inspections
Many times you will see the on-duty crew conducting the fire inspections as a group. There are several reasons for this:
  • Every inspector sees things differently.
  • Every time the crew conducts a fire inspection it is used as a training opportunity. As inspectors walk through buildings, it gives them a chance to look at the layout and construction of the building along with any known hazards that they may face.
  • If the crew receives an emergency call, they are able to respond in a timely manner.
If you have any questions, you can contact any of the fire inspectors directly, by email or phone, between the hours of 7 a.m. - 5 p.m.
