The Fitchburg Fire Department celebrates ‘National Fire Prevention Week” from October 3-9, 2010.
During this time fire safety advocates across the country will be spreading the word that when it comes to escape plans, practice is the key. Whether you're a teacher, a parent, or child, we've got many items of with helpful information to help you, your neighbors, friends and family members escape safely in the event of a home fire. So let's get started!
This year’s FPW campaign, “Smoke Alarms: A Sound You Can Live With!,” provides an ideal opportunity to educate the public about smoke alarm recommendations, and can serve as a powerful tool for motivating people to install smoke alarms, as needed, and to make sure they’re working and tested properly.
Many people are complacent about smoke alarms in their homes because they already have at least one, and feel adequately protected. Our goal this year is to motivate you to take the necessary steps toward greater home fire safety by checking your smoke detectors, maintaining them, and ensuring that there are batteries placed in the detectors correctly at all times so they will operate when needed.
