The following guidelines are intended to aid an architect /developer / builder in planning for and executing the appropriate actions that will reduce the risk of injury and / or disease, and improve the chances that trees designated for preservation will survive and thrive.  For more information on protection please read our Tree Protection and Pruning Guidelines document.

Symptoms of Tree Stress

  • Attack by borers and pests
  • Death
  • Decay at wound sites
  • Early fall coloration and defoliation
  • Epicormic shoots
  • Heavy seeding
  • Irregular wounds on trunks and lower branches
  • Leaf scorch
  • Short annual shoot elongation
  • Small, yellow leaves
  • Thin foliage
  • Twig and/or branch dieback
  • Wilting
