On March 12, 2018, at approximately 5:43 pm, Fitchburg Police were dispatched to 5154 Anton Drive for a report of a shooting. Arriving officers located a 20-year-old male with a gunshot wound. The male was transported to an area hospital and was later pronounced deceased. Yesterday the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the male as Julian Patterson of Ft. Atkinson.
The preliminary investigation indicates Patterson accompanied a friend to the parking lot of 5154 Anton Drive where a pre-arranged transaction for drugs was going to occur.
During the course of the interaction a disturbance broke out between two males and Patterson, resulting in the single gunshot being fired by one of the males.
Investigators worked through the night following up on investigative leads related to a male who was involved in the arrangements for the drug transaction and were able to locate him in Columbus, Wisconsin, yesterday afternoon and take him into custody. The male is identified as, Travon A. Jackson, age 19.
Following additional investigative leads, two other males, Gary C. Mays, age 18, and Joshua B. McInnis, age 17, were taken into custody in the early evening yesterday, following a traffic stop.
Jackson, Mays and Mcinnis were later booked into the Dane County Jail on a felony charge of physical abuse of a child resulting from an incident in Fitchburg in December of 2017. Charges related to the homicide are expected to be filed with the Dane County District Attorney’s Office later this week.
The Fitchburg Police Department is no longer seeking any suspects related to the incident. However, the investigation is still open and ongoing. Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact the Fitchburg Police Department.
The Fitchburg Police Department was assisted by the Dane County Narcotics Task Force, the Madison Police Department, the Columbus Police Department, and the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation.
