The City of Fitchburg is planning to construct a roundabout at the Nesbitt Road and Fitchrona Road intersection in 2019. This intersection is currently controlled with a four-way stop. Over the past several years, traffic volumes have steadily increased and the intersection now experiences significant delays and long lines of traffic during peak traffic hours. The roundabout will reduce congestion at the intersection.
Traffic signal and roundabout alternatives were considered during the design process. The roundabout alternative was selected because it best improves traffic flow and is anticipated to be the safest intersection configuration. A public open house will be held on November 13, 2018 from 6-7 pm at the Fitchburg City Hall, 5520 Lacy Road, Fitchburg. Exhibits showing the proposed roundabout will be available and project staff will be present to answer questions. Construction is anticipated to begin in the summer of 2019.
