[ARCHIVED] Suspect Arrested in Series of Package Thefts

fpd media release

Subject: Suspect Arrested in Series of Thefts

Incident #: 18-16390

Incident Date: 12/5/18

Date of Release: 12/6/18

By: Sergeant Edward Hartwick

Arrested: Tremaine R. Williams

Details:

On Wednesday, December 5, 2018, officers from the Fitchburg Police Department arrested Tremaine R. Williams, 34, of Madison, for the theft of three packages from porches of homes in the City of Fitchburg and one from a residence in the City of Madison.

The investigation began on Wednesday, November 28, when a Fitchburg resident reported a package stolen from their residence on Lacy Road. An additional theft from the same area was reported the following day.

Aided by home surveillance systems and eye witnesses, investigating officers determined the suspect was the same man depicted in a surveillance image released to the public by the City of Madison Police Department earlier in the week.  The surveillance image released by the City of Madison Police Department originated from a package taken on November 27 from a residence on Pelham Road.

Investigating officers from both departments worked together to determine Williams was the suspect in these thefts. When Williams was arrested, he was in possession of property linking him to at least one other package theft in the City of Fitchburg. Additional stolen property, likely taken from delivered packages, was also located. The Fitchburg Police Department is continuing to work with the Madison Police Department and other law enforcement agencies to identify owners of this property.

If you have been the victim of a recent package theft or related incident, and have yet to report it to police, please contact your local law enforcement agency to file a report.

Williams was booked in to the Dane County Jail on four counts of theft. Three counts pertain to thefts in the City of Fitchburg and one pertains to a theft in the City of Madison.

This joint investigation remains open.

Crime Prevention Tips:

During this busy holiday shopping and shipping season we encourage all residents to consider simple measures to deter package theft. We also ask citizens to report suspicious activity as soon as possible.  For more information, visit: http://www.fitchburgwi.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=1229
