A 29-year-old Fitchburg man made his initial appearance in Dane County Circuit Court yesterday on charges related to November 27 shooting that left another man with non-life-threatening injuries. Darius Stewart appeared on charges of First Degree Reckless Injury, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Criminal Damage to Property.
Stewart was taken into custody on November 30, three days after the shooting, and booked into the Dane County Jail on a probation violation. Officers found a loaded handgun in Stewart’s possession at the time of his arrest. As a convicted felon, Stewart is prohibited from possessing a firearm.
The investigation remains open. Investigators are looking to identify a vehicle, and its driver, that Stewart was in around the time of the incident (Sunday, November 27). The vehicle, pictured below, appears to be a white, late 2000s Chrysler 200.

Details:
The Fitchburg Police Department is investigating a shooting from the weekend that left a man with non-life-threatening injuries.
Around 1:40 p.m. Sunday, the Dane County Public Safety Communications Center received a 911 call from a man reporting he had been shot in the City of Fitchburg. The man was able to drive himself to a local hospital, where he received treatment for his non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
Investigating officers determined the shooting occurred in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 2400 block of High Ridge Trail. Rounds fired in the incident also struck an unoccupied vehicle in the lot.
Investigators have determined this is not a random shooting. The investigation remains open and active. No additional information is available for release at this time.
