Details:
Yesterday, Dane County Circuit Court Judge Julie Genovese sentenced Juwan Wilson to four years in prison and two years of extended supervision after he was found guilty on charges related to a 2020 shots fired incident in Fitchburg. Wilson was found guilty after a November jury trial for the charges of first-degree recklessly endangering safety and possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a felony.
The original incident occurred around 5:00 p.m. on October 22, 2020, when Fitchburg officers responded to the 2300 block of Post Road for reports of a person firing multiple rounds at a vehicle driving on Post Road. Responding officers located multiple shell casings and noted the high degree of concern for public safety based on the incident's proximity to a number of apartments, residences, an elementary school, and a park. At the time of the incident and his arrest, Wilson was on extended supervision through the Wisconsin Department of Corrections for a previous shooting incident.
The Fitchburg Police Department recognizes the challenges community members may face when sharing information about a crime, but community assistance was critical in this situation. Investigators were assisted by several citizen witnesses who came forward to share information about the incident and Wilson. As a result, a repeat offender was able to be arrested and convicted of a violent crime.

Details:
Juwan Wilson, who was wanted for a 2020 shots fired incident in Fitchburg, had his initial court appearance today in Dane County Circuit Court on charges of first-degree recklessly endangering safety and possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a felony. Wilson was arrested in Chicago last week by members of the United States Marshals Service Great Lakes Regional Task Force and extradited to Dane County for the charges stemming from the shots fired incident. Wilson also had a felony warrant for his arrest for violating the conditions of his extended supervision through the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.
Investigators from the Fitchburg Police Department developed probable cause to arrest Wilson for the October 2020 incident and began searching for him last month.
Personnel from the Fitchburg Police Department are continuing to work with investigators from other local law enforcement agencies to determine what connections, if any, this incident may have to other shots fired incidents over the last year.
