Around 9:30 a.m. this morning, Fitchburg police officers and fire rescue personnel responded to a traffic crash on CTH M in front of the Oregon Correctional Center (5140 CTH M, Fitchburg). Responding officers determined a car had rear-ended a van that was slowing to turn into the Oregon Correctional Center. The van was occupied by eight people in the custody of the Wisconsin Department of Corrections and driven by a Wisconsin Department of Corrections employee.
All of the van occupants were transported to a hospital with minor injuries or for evaluation. A passenger in the car was transported to a hospital with moderate but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the car was uninjured. A total of ten ambulances responded to assist with patient care and transport.
CTH M was closed for just over an hour while the crash scene was cleared. The 21-year-old driver of the car was cited for following too closely.
