On September 21, 2023, Fitchburg Police received a call about an unconscious driver at the intersection of Ochalla Drive and Fish Hatchery Road. While responding, a witness reported that the vehicle had taken off and was driving against traffic on the wrong side of Fish Hatchery Road. Officers located the car and driver on Ann Street in the City of Madison, where field sobriety testing was conducted. Officers later learned that other motorists nearly struck the vehicle after the unconscious driver rolled into traffic past a red light.
The driver, David Martinez Salas, 20, of Madison, was arrested and processed at the Dane County Jail for Operating While Intoxicated (2nd Offense), Operating with a Prohibited Alcohol Content, Failure to Install an Ignition Interlock Device and Operating After Revocation due to an alcohol-related offense. Additionally, David was cited for operating left of center on a divided highway.
Drunk driving continues to be one of the deadliest crimes in Wisconsin. It is always wise to avoid driving if you have been drinking. Together we can save lives.
