City of Fitchburg Building Inspection

Duties & Responsibilities
The Building Inspection Department assures both an established and effective level of building safety and health for the public who purchase, own, build, or use buildings and other structures throughout the city.
The department enforces the 2015 IBC Code and 2016 UDC state codes for one and two family homes. The building inspectors review plans and perform inspections as required. The inspectors also review new code editions and recommend local adoption changes and provide public assistance / education on content, intent, and compliance with building codes.


1 & 2 FAMILY NEW HOME CONTRACTORS

 NEW HOMES ONLY
Contractors that are building new one and two family homes in the City of Fitchburg will no longer have to file on-line with ESLA prior to submitting permits to the City.
We have adjusted our software to self- report to the State upon approval of the permit. You will still be required to submit the same documents as you did previously to the City for approval.


Attention Building Permit Applicants:

You may still use email and drop box for permit submission. For permit submittal, please email to buildingpermits@fitchburgwi.gov. For NEW Construction only, all hard copies are required (see check list), there is a drop box/basket set up inside the first set of doors (atrium) at City Hall, one electronic set of plans is also required.
