In 2018, Fitchburg and six other Dane County municipalities joined together to seek a grant from Wisconsin’s Office of Energy Innovation, partnering with Slipstream Inc. as the Project Manager. The seven-municipality partnership and Slipstream secured a $200,000 grant from OEI to collect data on energy usage, fleet vehicles, and building operations, and develop comprehensive energy reports and energy-reduction plans unique to each of the seven participants.
Slipstream’s final report identified numerous energy-reduction and renewable energy-generating opportunities for the City of Fitchburg, the sum total of which could save the city as much as 18% compared to current energy expenditures. Along with the 2019 Clean Energy Resolution, this report will form the basis of Fitchburg’s comprehensive energy planning for its future.
