Comprehensive Plan

Fitchburg's Comprehensive Plan was adopted March 24, 2009.

The Comprehensive Plan contains data and background information on the numerous resources and services of the community, including land use, economic development, natural, cultural and agricultural resources, housing, public facilities, utilities and transportation. The plan also identifies the goals, objectives and policies that will help determine the city’s use of resources and guide decisions for future development and preservation in the City of Fitchburg.

Amendments

(annual amendment process)


The Comprehensive Plan provides a process for amending the plan.  Amendments will be processed no more frequently than one time per year.  The Planning Department, Mayor or three members of the Common Council are the only ones that may recommend modifications to be considered as an amendment to the plan under the collective process.  Amendments are generally defined as minor changes to the maps or text of the Comprehensive Plan.
2019 Amendments:
A proposed 2019 Comprehensive Plan Amendment was submitted to amend Figure 4-10 (Future Land Use Plan Map) to change the future land use designation for property associated with 2546 and 2556 South Fish Hatchery Road from High Density Residential (HDR) to Low Density Residential (LDR) of two to five dwelling units per acre.

On July 16th, 2019 the Plan Commission voted on the 2019 amendment to the City of Fitchburg Comprehensive Plan. The Plans Commission recommended to the Fitchburg Common Council to amend Figure 4-10 (Future Land Use Plan Map) to change the future land use designation for property associated with 2546 and 2556 South Fish Hatchery Road from High Density Residential (HDR) to Low Density Residential (LDR) of two to five dwelling units per acre, and amend to include text on page 4-16 that reads “The fifth area is the four tax parcels addressed as 2546 and 2556 S Fish Hatchery Road, which currently are designated Low Density Residential (LDR), but which may, at the discretion of the Plan Commission and Council, be suitable for Industrial-Commercial (I-C).
 
On August 27th, 2019 the Common Council will vote on the 2019 amendment to the City of Fitchburg Comprehensive Plan
