Arrested: Elizabeth S. Sosa, 39
Details:
Sunday evening, around 6:40 p.m., Fitchburg officers responded to a business in the 6300 block of McKee Road for a reported retail theft. The suspect had attempted to take several hundred dollars of merchandise from the store and then ran from asset protection personnel when she was confronted.
One of the responding officers located the suspect, Elizabeth S. Sosa, near another business in the area. After initially stopping for the officer, Sosa ran when she learned she would be detained. The officer caught up to Sosa a short distance later. While the officer was handcuffing her, Sosa punched the officer in the face before being fully handcuffed.
The officer was evaluated at a local hospital for minor injuries and released.
Sosa was booked into the Dane County Jail for battery to a law enforcement officer and resisting/obstructing an officer. Additional charges for retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia may be referred after additional investigation. Sosa also had felony warrants for her arrest through Dane and Columbia counties.
The Verona Police Department assisted with a response to the scene.
