The public is invited to attend the Memorial Day Observance on Monday, May 28th at the Fitchburg Fire Station #2, located at 2931 Marketplace Drive, starting at 12:15 pm. At 1:30 pm a wreath will be laid at the Bob Schley Memorial in honor of the men and women who have sacrificed their lives while serving our country. Gorman Wayside is located at 2377 S. Fish Hatchery Road.
This year's keynote speaker is Chief Joe Pulvermacher, Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director for the City of Fitchburg. Chief Pulvermacher has over 30 years in fire service, serving as a volunteer, in the military and as a career firefighter. The theme for Chief Pulvermacher's keynote address is "Service Above Self" which is a traditional military philosophy. Chief Pulvermacher is a veteran, having served as a Fire Protection Specialist in the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany, during Desert Shield/Desert Storm. "Service Above Self" is a value that has contributed to Chief Pulvermacher's approach to public safety, incident response and emergency preparedness, and how his observance of Memorial Day over the years has impacted his community service.
