On Friday, January 4, 2019, at 10:37 p.m., Fitchburg Police officers responded to Speedway, located at 2810 Fish Hatchery Road, for a report of an armed robbery. An employee reported a male had entered the store, displayed a gun and demanded money. Responding officers saw the suspect running from the store and were able to take him into custody at as he attempted to scale a fence. The suspect, identified as Anthony A. Post, was in possession of money and a BB gun designed to resemble an actual gun.
Fitchburg officers were in the area of Speedway at the time of the robbery to check for the suspect from an attempted armed robbery minutes before at Kwik Trip, located at 2601 Fish Hatchery Road in the City of Madison. Officers from the City of Madison Police Department joined the investigation into the Speedway armed robbery and determined Post was the same suspect from the attempted armed robbery at Kwik Trip.
Post was transported to the Dane County Jail and booked on a probation violation. Charges for armed robbery and resisting an officer will be sent to the Dane County District Attorney's Office. Additional charges may be requested by the City of Madison Police Department.
The investigation remains open and no further information is available for release from our agency at this time.
