On April 5, 2019, at approximately 10:57 p.m., Officers from the Fitchburg Police Department were sent to the 2100 Block of High Ridge Trail for the report of shots being fired in the parking lot. The investigation revealed that there were no shots that were fired in the area and the sound that was reported as shots fired was actually several individuals breaking into a vehicle in the parking lot. Witnesses on scene indicated two to three males broke into a vehicle in the parking lot and then entered an apartment that was associated with the vehicle. The suspects were reported to be armed with handguns and a shotgun. The suspects stole items from the apartment and fled on foot to the south.
One of the suspects was described as a light skinned black male approximately 25-30 years old, 5’6” to 5’7” tall with a medium build, wearing a white tee shirt and had short hair. The other suspect was described as a black male, approximately 20-25 years old, approximately 6’1”, with a heavy build, and wearing red clothing. There is no description available for the third suspect.
There were no injuries that occurred from this incident and there is no further information to release at this time. The investigation is ongoing. At this time there is no reason to believe the public is in danger as this appears to be a targeted attack involving a specific vehicle and apartment. The Fitchburg Police Department was assisted by the City of Madison Police K9 unit.
