Incident Details:
Last night, Fitchburg Police officers, working a special assignment to address stolen automobiles, recovered a stolen vehicle believed to have been the same vehicle that crashed into a Fitchburg police vehicle earlier this week.
On Thursday, October 10, 2019, around 11:50 p.m., officers located a white Audi SUV just outside the City of Fitchburg. The vehicle, listed as stolen through the Madison Police Department, was found unoccupied on Churchill Drive near Greenway View.
A short time later, officers saw a man approach the vehicle and took him into custody without incident. Officers obtained evidence to link the man to the stolen vehicle.
Alwayne Jones Jr., 22, of Madison, was booked into the Dane County Jail on tentative charges of operating a vehicle without owner’s consent and receiving stolen property.
Additional charges for Jones related to the possession of marijuana and narcotic drugs will be referred to the Dane County District Attorney’s Office.
Investigators believe this recovered Audi is the same vehicle involved in an incident that occurred Monday, October 7, 2019. Monday, a Fitchburg officer stopped to check on a suspicious vehicle in the 4500 block of Thurston Lane. The driver of the Audi at the time, crashed the into the officer’s vehicle and drove away from the scene. Investigators are still trying to determine who was driving the Audi at the time of the incident.
