At approximately 2:26 AM on Saturday, October 25, 2014 the Dane County Public Safety Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call reporting a structure fire at 4395 Crescent Rd. in the City of Fitchburg. The City of Fitchburg Police Department was first on-scene and reported heavy fire and smoke showing from an exterior balcony. The City of Fitchburg Fire Department and Fitch-Rona EMS quickly responded along with automatic aid from the City of Verona Fire Department and the Town of Madison Fire Department. The first arriving Fitchburg Fire unit arrived on scene to find fire had extended into the attic area and burnt through the roof. Due to the amount of fire involvement, Fitchburg Fire quickly requested a Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS). Additional responding departments were the City of Middleton, Town of Blooming Grove, Village of McFarland and the City of Madison. Extensive fire damage occurred to four of the eight residential units (two, four unit condos). The fire was stopped at a fire wall in the middle of the building. No injuries reported by the affected residents. The Red Cross and Salvation Army was requested and arrived on scene to assist the displaced residents. One cat was rescued and is in the care of its owner. The building does have residential sprinkler system in the common areas, not the living units or attic. The units did have operating smoke detectors.
