[ARCHIVED] Crime Prevention & COVID-19

fpd crime prevention tips

We know your newsfeed is inundated with COVID-19 stories, but we wanted to take a moment to ask you to pass on some important information to our community.

First and foremost, we remain on-duty, ready to serve our community. We’ve taken a number of measures in the name of the health and well-being of our community, our health care system, and our department. While some aspects of our delivery of services have been modified, we are still answering the phone, responding to calls when needed, and patrolling your neighborhoods. Our officers have increased their patrols and visibility in our residential areas and business corridors.

You can read more about the modifications we’ve made in response to COVID-19 here: http://www.fitchburgwi.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=1534

Second, with more of you staying home, we ask you to remain aware of the activity in your neighborhood and remember basic crime prevention steps. With everyone’s minds focused elsewhere, it’s easy to forget to close the garage door or lock your car.

Here are some easy property crime prevention tips to share with your neighborhood: http://www.fitchburgwi.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=1208

Third, in addition to property crime prevention, we are asking members of our community to stay alert for scams and practice basic cyber security tips. You can stay up to date on COVID-19 related scams and other related tips here: ftc.gov/coronavirus

Now more than ever, we are asking you to look out for one another for everyone’s health and safety. If something seems suspicious or out of the ordinary in your neighborhood, or while you’re out in the community, please don’t hesitate to contact our non-emergency dispatch number, (608)270-4300.

Stay well, stay safe, and remember we’re here for you.
