First arriving units did not see smoke or flames, but building tenants were able to direct them to the location of the fire in a first floor apartment of the 8-unit building. The fire was extinguished within minutes of the first engine’s arrival. Fire damage was contained to the room of origin and its contents, while the rest of the unit sustained smoke damage.
One resident of the apartment has been displaced and the Red Cross was notified to provide assistance.
The apartment building does have a fire alarm system, which was activated, but it is not equipped with a sprinkler system.
Automatic Aid was provided by the Fitchburg Police Department FitchRona EMS, and the Town of Madison Fire Department. No injuries were reported at the scene.
