[ARCHIVED] Don't Let Crime Push Your (Garage Door) Buttons

We continue to receive reports of unlocked cars entered overnight and burglaries resulting from garage door openers left in these cars. In many cases, the suspects entered the garage in search of cars and keys. Unfortunately, we have also had several cases where the suspects have entered the home through an unlocked door in the garage.

If you park your car(s) outside:
•Make sure they are locked
•Remove garage door openers and other valuables

Consult your garage door opener manual to learn about additional security features that allow for overnight locking or temporary disabling of remotes.

For under $50, and with a WiFi network, you can retrofit an existing opener with a device to monitor the status of your garage door, receive alerts, set timers, and open or close your door from anywhere with your phone.

No matter how you do it, remember to keep your garage door closed. It’s also important to lock the door between from your garage into your home.

Property crime prevention is a team effort. Thank you for doing your part.
