[ARCHIVED] Interrupted Burglary

Fitchburg Police Department News

Over the weekend, officers working evening/overnight hours focused their patrol efforts in neighborhoods throughout the city and notified many homeowners of open garage doors.

Around 5:00 a.m. this morning, a third-shift (11 p.m. - 7 a.m.) officer was on patrol in the 2900 block of Osmundsen Road when he saw an SUV that had been reported stolen in Madison. As the stolen vehicle fled the area, the officer saw a male running from an open garage in the same block.

Unfortunately, the burglary suspect was able to evade apprehension along with the stolen SUV. Fortunately though, the burglary was interrupted and nothing appeared to be missing from the garage. The garage door was inadvertently left open overnight.

Later this morning, we received a call in the same area from a resident on Sahara Circle reporting their vehicle had been entered overnight but nothing was taken.

If you don’t already have a nightly crime prevention routine, tonight is a great time to start one. Lock car doors, remove keys, close your garage door and lock the door from your garage into your home.

Thank you for your doing your part to prevent crime
