Late Saturday evening, Fitchburg officers investigated multiple burglaries, including a theft of a vehicle, in the area of Red Arrow Trail and Jenewein Road. The first call was received around 9:40 p.m. when a homeowner in the 4500 block of Jenewein Road reported someone had entered their home earlier and stolen the contents of a purse. A short time later, additional calls were received reporting burglaries to homes on separate blocks of Red Arrow Trail.
Fitchburg officers ultimately investigated four burglaries in the area Saturday evening. A SUV was stolen from a home during one of burglaries. Based on available evidence, officers believe that at least one of the burglaries occurred earlier in the evening, around 7:00 p.m. In at least one instance, it appears the suspect(s) gained access by breaking a basement window. The suspect(s) entered another home via an unlocked door or window. Some of the victims were home during the burglaries while other homes were unoccupied at the time of the incidents.
Officers are spending additional time in the area today to collect video evidence and speak with neighbors. If anyone has home surveillance video footage of suspicious behavior in the area from last evening, or if they may have witnessed suspicious activity, please contact the Fitchburg Police Department at (608)270-4300.
Anyone with information regarding these crimes is asked to contact the Fitchburg Police Department or Madison Area Crime Stoppers at (608)266-6014.
