Weather permitting, holiday tree collection will begin the week of January 4th for properties within the City of Fitchburg’s brush collection. A second collection will take place the week of January 18th. Trees should be at the curb by 6:30 am on Monday morning of the collection week with trunks facing street. All decorating material must be removed. Flocked trees are not collected and must be disposed of in the refuse, with a refuse tag attached. Please do not allow trees to become covered with snow.
Wreaths and garland are considered refuse if they are flocked or contain metal or other supporting devices. However, with a little elbow grease, real wreaths can be recycled! Remove all decorations and supporting material from the wreath. Take to the Fitchburg Recycling Drop-off Site at 2373 S. Fish Hatchery Rd and put the boughs in the “Yardwaste” area and metal or steel framing in the “Scrap Metal” area. Ornaments are not recyclable and should be reused or placed in your green refuse cart. Plastic-coated metal is also not recyclable.
