The City of Fitchburg has over 11,000 acres of agricultural land within its borders. Given Fitchburg’s unique land base, and its proximity to the City of Madison and recreational trails, Fitchburg’s Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee has recently begun the process of developing an “Agriculture Plan” to help maintain and enhance agriculture in the City into the foreseeable future. Major Plan components include exploring opportunities to increase local food/nice crop production, value-added agriculture, and agricultural tourism within the City’s borders.
The Committee will be holding an Agriculture Plan public open house and workshop beginning at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, October 22, City Council Chambers, Fitchburg City Hall. The purpose of the open house and workshop is to gather feedback from interested parties on Plan development.
