The Fitchburg Fire Department has teamed up with WisSAFE (Wisconsin Smoke Alarm Fire Education Committee), which has partnered with the Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin Charitable Foundation and the Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin and fire departments across Wisconsin, to install over 3,600 smoke alarms by October of 2016.
Through this program, the FFD was awarded approximately 50 smoke alarms. The alarms will be installed this July and August in homes of senior citizens living in Fitchburg. The Fire Department has teamed up with the Fitchburg Senior Center to assist in the placement of these detectors in the homes of seniors.
In order to qualify for a free smoke and carbon monoxide alarm and have it installed, the home owner must:
• Reside in the City of Fitchburg
• Live in the house where alarm will be installed
• Be registered with the Fitchburg Senior Center
• Enter the drawing by 5 p.m. July 18, 2016
• Only one entry per address
On July 20, recipients will be randomly selected from all entries and will be contacted by the Fitchburg Fire Department to schedule installation of the alarm.
While installing each smoke alarm, the firefighters will also conduct a home safety inspection, during which recommendations will be made to help prevent injuries and fires in the home.
