The City of Fitchburg Memorial Day Observance will be held on Monday, May 26th at the Fitchburg Senior Center located at 5510 Lacy Road (lower level of the Fitchburg Community Center) at 1:00 pm. This year's keynote speaker is Mary Kolar, Captain, United States Navy Retired. Captain Kolar served for 28 years on active duty and was assigned to commands supporting various warfare aspects of the United States Navy.
Captain Kolar has chosen "Side by Side: 238 Years of Shared Sacrifice" as the theme for her speech. The Oregon/Brooklyn VFW Post 10272 will preside over the observance. At 2:30 pm, there will be a wreath laid at the Bob Schley Memorial by MM2 Bart Schley, which is located at 2377 South Fish Hatchery Road (former City Hall) in honor of the men and women who have lost their lives while serving our country. The general public is invited to this service.
