During the July 12 meeting of the City's Police and Fire Commission, Chief Thomas Blatter submitted his letter of retirement, following forty years of service to the City of Fitchburg. Chief Blatter's official retirement date will be on or about December 31st. The Police & Fire Commission will oversee the hiring process of a new chief.
Chief Blatter began his law enforcement career in Mineral Point, Wisconsin on July 15, 1976 and on May 9, 1977 he became the tenth officer at the Town of Fitchburg Police Department. Over the years he ascended the ranks from officer, to sergeant, lieutenant, deputy chief and in February of 2000, Chief. Chief Blatter now leads a department of 50 sworn personnel and 13 civilian employees as well as several part-time employees. We would all like to express our gratitude for Chief Blatter's leadership and his service to the department and the community.
